Almond Kringle

January 1, 2025 by el hassan Leave a Comment

This Almond Kringle is a classic pastry perfect for breakfast, brunch, or dessert. With a buttery crust, sweet almond filling, and a drizzle of glaze, it’s a show-stopping treat that’s surprisingly easy to make!

Ingredients

Dough:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • ½ cup sour cream

Filling:

  • ½ cup almond paste, crumbled
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 tsp almond extract

Glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2–3 tbsp milk
  • ½ tsp almond extract
  • Optional: Sliced almonds for garnish

Instructions

  1. Make the Dough:
    • In a large bowl, combine flour and cold butter. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to mix until the butter is pea-sized. Add sour cream and mix until the dough comes together.
    • Divide the dough into two equal portions, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  2. Prepare the Filling:
    • In a small bowl, mix almond paste, sugar, butter, and almond extract until smooth and creamy. Set aside.
  3. Assemble the Kringle:
    • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
    • Roll out one portion of dough into a rectangle (about 10×14 inches). Spread half the almond filling down the center of the dough, leaving a 1-inch border on all sides.
    • Fold the long sides of the dough over the filling, overlapping slightly. Pinch the edges to seal and carefully transfer to the prepared baking sheet. Repeat with the second portion of dough and filling.
  4. Bake:
    • Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until the kringle is golden brown. Cool completely on a wire rack.
  5. Add the Glaze:
    • In a small bowl, whisk powdered sugar, milk, and almond extract until smooth. Drizzle over the cooled kringles and sprinkle with sliced almonds if desired.
  6. Serve:
    • Slice and enjoy!

Notes

  • For a time-saving option, use pre-made puff pastry instead of homemade dough.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerate for up to 5 days.
  • Freeze unglazed kringle for up to 3 months; thaw and glaze before serving.
