Amish Peanut Butter Cream Pie

This Amish peanut butter cream pie is the ultimate dessert for peanut butter lovers! With a flaky pie crust, creamy vanilla custard filling, and a deliciously crumbly peanut butter topping, every bite is rich, sweet, and utterly satisfying. A traditional favorite that’s perfect for holidays, gatherings, or whenever you need a slice of comfort.


Ingredients

  • 1 pre-baked 9-inch pie crust
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 3 large egg yolks
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar (for whipped cream)

Instructions

  1. Make Peanut Butter Crumbs: In a bowl, mix the peanut butter and powdered sugar with a fork until crumbly. Set aside.
  2. Prepare the Custard Filling:
    • In a medium saucepan, whisk together milk, granulated sugar, and cornstarch over medium heat until the mixture begins to thicken.
    • In a separate bowl, whisk the egg yolks. Slowly add a small amount of the hot milk mixture to the yolks to temper them, then pour the yolk mixture back into the saucepan.
    • Cook, stirring constantly, until the custard is thick and creamy. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  3. Layer the Pie: Sprinkle half of the peanut butter crumbs over the bottom of the pre-baked pie crust. Pour the custard filling over the crumbs, spreading it evenly. Sprinkle the remaining peanut butter crumbs on top.
  4. Chill: Refrigerate the pie for at least 4 hours or until fully set.
  5. Make Whipped Cream: Beat the heavy whipping cream with the granulated sugar until stiff peaks form. Spread or pipe the whipped cream over the chilled pie before serving.

  • Use Smooth Peanut Butter: For the classic Amish texture, smooth peanut butter works best.
  • Chill Thoroughly: Ensure the pie is completely chilled before slicing to prevent the custard from running.

  • Make Ahead: Prepare the pie a day in advance for the best texture and flavor.
