Best Homemade Pizza Dough Recipe: Easy, Fluffy & Delicious

February 6, 2025 by el hassan Leave a Comment

Making pizza at home just got a whole lot better with this foolproof homemade pizza dough recipe. Whether you’re craving a classic Margherita, a loaded veggie pizza, or a pepperoni favorite, this dough is the perfect base for any pizza topping.

It’s soft and fluffy on the inside, crispy on the outside, and made with just a few pantry ingredients. Perfect for beginners and seasoned pizza makers alike, this recipe is easy, versatile, and absolutely delicious!

Ingredients (Makes 2 medium pizzas)

  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour (plus extra for dusting)
  • 1 packet (2 ¼ teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 ¼ cups warm water (110°F/45°C)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions

Step 1: Activate the Yeast

  1. In a small bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy. (If it doesn’t foam, your yeast might be expired—start over with fresh yeast.)

Step 2: Make the Dough

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt.
  2. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil to the flour. Stir until a shaggy dough forms.

Step 3: Knead the Dough

  1. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes, until smooth and elastic. (Alternatively, use a stand mixer with a dough hook for 5-6 minutes.)

Step 4: Let the Dough Rise

  1. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a clean towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours, or until it doubles in size.

Step 5: Shape the Dough

  1. Punch down the risen dough and divide it into two equal portions.
  2. Roll each portion into a 12-inch circle, or your preferred pizza shape. (For a thicker crust, let the rolled-out dough rest for 15 minutes before topping.)

Baking Instructions

  1. Preheat Your Oven: Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven while preheating.
  2. Add Toppings: Spread your favorite sauce, cheese, and toppings over the dough.
  3. Bake: Place the pizza on a baking sheet or directly on the pizza stone. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbling.
  4. Cool & Serve: Let the pizza cool for a minute, slice, and enjoy!

Tips & Tricks for Perfect Pizza Dough

✅ Check your yeast – Always ensure your yeast is fresh and active for a good rise.
✅ Use warm water – Water that’s too hot can kill the yeast, while cold water will slow activation.
✅ Let it rise properly – Give the dough time to double in size for the best texture.
✅ Preheat your oven well – A hot oven ensures a crispy, golden crust.
✅ Freeze for later – Wrap the dough in plastic wrap after the first rise and freeze for up to 3 months. Thaw in the fridge overnight before using.
