Blue Milk Tea – Butterfly Pea Milk Tea

May 22, 2025 by el hassan Leave a Comment

A mesmerizing blue-hued milk tea that’s as beautiful as it is delicious! Made with butterfly pea flowers, this naturally vibrant tea transforms into a creamy, subtly sweet drink perfect for any time of day.

???? Description

Butterfly pea flower tea is famous for its brilliant deep blue color, derived naturally from the petals of the butterfly pea plant. When brewed and combined with milk and a touch of sweetness, it creates a uniquely refreshing and visually stunning drink — Blue Milk Tea.

This tea is caffeine-light, floral, and slightly earthy, making it an excellent alternative to traditional black or green milk teas. Its magical color changes to purple with a squeeze of lemon, adding a fun twist for parties or Instagram-worthy drinks at home.

Blue Milk Tea is perfect for those who love trying creative, healthy, and photogenic beverages. It’s dairy-free adaptable and customizable with sweeteners and toppings like boba pearls or jelly cubes.

???? Ingredients (U.S. Standard Measurements)

  • 1 cup hot water (just off boil)
  • 1 tablespoon dried butterfly pea flowers (or 1 tea bag)
  • 1 tablespoon honey or to taste (or sugar, agave syrup)
  • 3/4 cup milk (dairy or plant-based like oat, almond, or coconut milk)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • Ice cubes (for serving)
  • Optional: fresh lemon juice for color change effect

???? Instructions

1. Brew Butterfly Pea Tea

Place dried butterfly pea flowers or tea bag into hot water. Let steep for 5–7 minutes until the water turns a vibrant blue.

Strain the flowers if using loose petals.

2. Sweeten the Tea

Add honey or your preferred sweetener while the tea is still warm. Stir well until dissolved.

3. Add Milk

Pour in the milk and vanilla extract if using. Stir to combine. The tea will turn a lighter, milky blue color.

4. Serve

Fill a glass with ice cubes and pour the blue milk tea over the ice.

5. Optional Color Change

Add a few drops of fresh lemon juice to watch the drink change from blue to purple — a fun and magical effect.

???? Variation (From Me!)

???? Iced Butterfly Pea Latte

For a richer treat, use steamed milk or a milk frother to create a creamy latte texture. Top with a sprinkle of cinnamon or edible flowers for a café-style experience.

???? Tips & Tricks

  • Use filtered water for the clearest blue color.
  • Adjust sweetness to your taste — butterfly pea tea has a subtle flavor, so balance is key.
  • Try using coconut milk for a tropical twist.
  • Butterfly pea flowers can be found in Asian grocery stores or online.
