Broccoli Chicken Divan

January 18, 2025 by el hassan Leave a Comment

Broccoli Chicken Divan is a beloved comfort food that effortlessly combines tender chicken, fresh broccoli, and a creamy cheese sauce, all baked to golden perfection. Here’s a refreshed version of the recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups cooked chicken, cubed
  • 2 cups broccoli florets
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1 cup milk
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp pepper
  • ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup bread crumbs

Instructions:

  1. Preheat Your Oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) for an even bake.
  2. Grease the Baking Dish: Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish to prevent sticking.
  3. Layer the Chicken and Broccoli: Evenly spread the cubed chicken and broccoli florets in the prepared dish.
  4. Create the Creamy Sauce:
    • Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
    • Stir in the flour, cooking it for about 1 minute to form a roux.
    • Slowly whisk in the chicken broth and milk, stirring to eliminate any lumps.
    • Continue cooking for 5-7 minutes until the sauce thickens.
    • Add the salt, pepper, and shredded cheddar cheese, stirring until smooth and creamy.
  5. Assemble the Dish: Pour the cheese sauce over the chicken and broccoli, making sure everything is coated evenly.
  6. Top with Bread Crumbs: Sprinkle the bread crumbs over the top of the dish for a crunchy finish.
  7. Bake: Place the dish in the oven and bake for 25 minutes, or until the sauce is bubbly and the bread crumbs are golden.
  8. Let It Set: Allow the dish to cool slightly before serving to make slicing easier.

Tips:

  • Vegetarian Alternative: Replace the chicken with tofu or a variety of vegetables, and use vegetable broth to keep it vegetarian.
  • Cheese Variations: Feel free to substitute cheddar with mozzarella, Monterey Jack, or your favorite melting cheese.
  • Gluten-Free: Use gluten-free flour and breadcrumbs if necessary.
