Cheesy Garlic Chive Cruffins

January 23, 2025 by el hassan Leave a Comment

Flaky, buttery, and bursting with cheesy garlic goodness, these Cheesy Garlic Chive Cruffins are the perfect savory twist on a classic cruffin! Made with crescent roll dough, stuffed with cheesy garlic butter, and baked to golden perfection, they are crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and irresistibly delicious. Serve them as a side, appetizer, or snack—just be warned, they disappear fast!

Recipe Details

  • Prep Time: 20 minutes
  • Cook Time: 25 minutes
  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yields: 12 cruffins

Ingredients

For the Dough:

  • 3 tubes (8 oz each) refrigerated crescent roll sheets

For the Cheesy Garlic Filling:

  • ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 tbsp fresh chives, finely chopped (or substitute with finely chopped scallions)
  • 1 tbsp garlic, minced
  • 3 cups (339g) mild cheddar cheese, shredded, divided (medium or sharp cheddar also works!)

For the Garlic Butter Topping:

  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp chives, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp kosher salt

Instructions

1. Prep & Roll Out the Dough

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Lightly grease a 12-cup muffin tin with nonstick spray.
  • On a lightly floured surface, roll out each crescent roll sheet into a 12×16-inch rectangle. (If using perforated crescent dough, pinch seams to seal.)

2. Make the Cheesy Garlic Filling

  • In a bowl, mix softened butter, minced garlic, and chives.
  • Spread ⅓ of the butter mixture over one sheet of dough.
  • Sprinkle 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the buttered dough.

3. Roll, Cut & Shape

  • Starting from the long edge, roll the dough tightly into a log.
  • Cut the log in half, creating two shorter logs.
  • Slice each log in half lengthwise, exposing the layers of dough.
  • Repeat with remaining dough sheets—you will have 12 strips of dough.
  • Roll each strip into a cinnamon roll shape, keeping the layered side visible.
  • Tuck in the loose end and place into a muffin tin cup.

4. Bake to Perfection

  • Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
  • While baking, prepare the garlic butter topping.

5. Add the Garlic Butter Topping

  • In a small bowl, whisk together melted butter, garlic, chives, and salt.
  • Once cruffins are out of the oven, brush generously with garlic butter.
  • Let cool for a few minutes before serving warm.

Mini Cheesy Garlic Cruffins ????✨

Want bite-sized cruffins? Follow these adjustments:
✔ Cut each log into 4 smaller pieces (instead of 2), then slice each piece in half lengthwise—this gives you 8 smaller dough sections per sheet.
✔ Bake in a mini muffin tin at 350°F for 18 minutes.
✔ Brush with garlic butter and serve warm!

Alternative Dough Options

Homemade Dough Option

Prefer from-scratch dough? Use my homemade cruffin dough recipe—just skip the cinnamon sugar and replace with garlic butter and cheese.

Puff Pastry Version

Yes, you can use puff pastry sheets instead! Use 3 thawed sheets (1 ½ boxes) and bake at 400°F for 24 minutes instead of 350°F.

Storage & Reheating

  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
  • To reheat, warm in a 350°F oven for 5–7 minutes or in the microwave for 10–15 seconds.
  • Freeze cruffins for up to 1 month and reheat directly from frozen.
