Cheesy Ranch Potatoes and Smoked Sausage

July 9, 2025 by [email protected] Leave a Comment

This hearty and comforting dish features golden roasted potatoes, juicy smoked sausage, and a creamy ranch-seasoned cheese sauce that brings it all together. It’s a quick and satisfying dinner perfect for busy weeknights or weekend potlucks.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs (about 5 cups) baby potatoes, halved or quartered
  • 14 oz smoked sausage, sliced into rounds
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 packet ranch seasoning mix
  • 1½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Lightly grease a large baking dish or line a sheet pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, toss the halved potatoes with olive oil, ranch seasoning, salt, and pepper.
  3. Spread the seasoned potatoes onto the baking dish and bake for 25 minutes.
  4. Remove from the oven, add the sliced smoked sausage, and toss everything together. Return to the oven and bake for another 15–20 minutes, until the potatoes are fork-tender and the sausage is browned.
  5. Sprinkle cheddar and mozzarella cheese evenly over the top. Return to the oven for 5–7 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  6. Garnish with chopped parsley and serve hot.

Tips

  • Crispier texture: Broil for the last 2–3 minutes to get a golden, bubbly cheese top.
  • Even cooking: Make sure to cut the potatoes uniformly to ensure they roast evenly.
  • Less mess: Line your baking dish with parchment paper or foil for easier cleanup.
  • Flavor boost: Add a touch of garlic powder or paprika when seasoning the potatoes.

Variations and Substitutions

  • Different sausage: Use turkey sausage, kielbasa, or even chorizo for a spicy twist.
  • Cheese swap: Try pepper jack or Colby Jack for added flavor.
  • Make it creamy: Add a few dollops of sour cream or a drizzle of ranch dressing just before serving.
  • Add veggies: Bell peppers, onions, or broccoli florets roast well with the potatoes.

FAQs

Can I use frozen potatoes?
Yes, but thaw and pat them dry first to avoid sogginess.

Can I make this ahead of time?
You can prep and roast the potatoes and sausage, then reheat and add cheese before serving.

What if I don’t have ranch seasoning?
Mix 1 tsp each of dried parsley, garlic powder, onion powder, and dill with a pinch of salt to create a homemade blend.

Can I cook this on the stovetop?
Yes! Sauté potatoes in a skillet with a lid until tender, then add sausage and melt the cheese on top.
