Christmas Eggnog Bread

June 24, 2025 by [email protected] Leave a Comment

When the holidays roll in, there’s no better way to celebrate than with warm, spiced, homemade baked goods. This Christmas Eggnog Bread captures the magic of the season in every slice — moist, fluffy, and richly flavored with eggnog, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

Topped with a simple eggnog glaze and maybe even a dusting of holiday cheer (aka nutmeg!), this quick bread is perfect for gifting, sharing, or savoring with a hot mug of coffee or cocoa by the fire.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • 🎄 Full of classic holiday flavors like nutmeg and vanilla
  • 🕒 Quick and easy – no mixer required
  • 🎁 Perfect for edible gifts or festive brunches
  • ❄️ Moist and tender, stays fresh for days
  • ✨ Can be made ahead and frozen for holiday prep

Ingredients (U.S. Standard Measurements – Makes 1 loaf)

For the Bread:

  • 1¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
  • 1 cup eggnog (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Optional: ½ cup chopped nuts or white chocolate chips

For the Eggnog Glaze:

  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 1½–2 tablespoons eggnog
  • A pinch of nutmeg (optional for garnish)

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a standard 9×5-inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper.

Step 2: Mix Dry Ingredients

In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Set aside.

Step 3: Mix Wet Ingredients

In a large bowl, whisk together sugar and eggs until light and fluffy (1–2 minutes). Add melted butter, eggnog, and vanilla, whisking until smooth.

Step 4: Combine

Gradually stir the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined. Fold in nuts or chocolate chips, if using. Do not overmix.

Step 5: Bake

Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Bake for 45–55 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Step 6: Glaze

In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar and eggnog until smooth. Drizzle over the cooled bread and sprinkle with a pinch of nutmeg, if desired.

Tips & Tricks

  • Don’t overbake — check at 45 minutes to keep it moist.
  • Add a splash of rum extract for a boozy, eggnog-inspired twist.
  • This bread freezes beautifully — wrap tightly and store for up to 2 months.
  • Make mini loaves for adorable holiday gifts.
  • Pair with coffee or a warm cup of spiced chai for maximum cozy factor.
