Crack Chicken Tenders Recipe

These Crack Chicken Tenders are juicy, crispy, cheesy, and absolutely addictive—just like the name suggests! Coated in a blend of ranch seasoning, cheddar cheese, and crispy bacon bits, then oven-baked or air-fried to golden perfection, this recipe is a weeknight dinner winner or a perfect party appetizer. They’re packed with flavor and ready in under 30 minutes!

Ingredients

  • 1½ lbs chicken tenders (or boneless chicken breasts cut into strips)
  • 1 packet ranch seasoning mix
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup cooked bacon, finely chopped
  • 1 cup crushed Ritz crackers or panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • Cooking spray or oil (for baking or air frying)
  • Fresh parsley, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C), or preheat air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or spray the air fryer basket.
  2. Prep the dredging station: Set up three shallow bowls—one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with a mixture of crushed crackers, ranch seasoning, cheese, and bacon bits.
  3. Coat the chicken: Dredge each chicken tender in flour, dip into egg, then press into the cheesy crumb mixture to coat well. Place on the prepared baking sheet or air fryer basket.
  4. Bake or air fry:
    • Oven: Bake for 20–22 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden and cooked through.
    • Air fryer: Cook in batches for 10–12 minutes, flipping once, until crispy and done.
  5. Garnish and serve: Sprinkle with fresh parsley if desired and serve with your favorite dipping sauce.

Tips

  • Use thin chicken strips to ensure quick, even cooking.
  • Press the coating firmly into the chicken so it sticks well and bakes up crispy.
  • Don’t skip the flipping: It helps brown both sides evenly, especially in the oven.
  • Add a wire rack: Place tenders on a rack over the baking sheet for extra crispness.

Variations and Substitutions

  • Low-carb version: Use crushed pork rinds instead of crackers or breadcrumbs.
  • Spicy kick: Add cayenne pepper or crushed red pepper to the coating.
  • No ranch packet? Use 1 tsp each of garlic powder, onion powder, parsley, and dill.
  • Make it into nuggets: Cut chicken into bite-sized pieces for fun, crispy nuggets!

FAQs

Can I make this ahead of time?
Yes, you can bread the tenders and refrigerate them for up to 8 hours before baking or air frying.

Can I freeze Crack Chicken Tenders?
Absolutely! Freeze them after breading on a tray. Once solid, transfer to a freezer bag. Cook directly from frozen—just add 5–7 extra minutes.

What’s the best dipping sauce?
Ranch, honey mustard, BBQ sauce, or spicy mayo all work great with these tenders.

Can I use pre-cooked chicken?
This recipe is designed for raw chicken. If using pre-cooked, reduce baking time and just heat through until crispy.

Serving Suggestions

  • Serve with creamy ranch, buffalo sauce, or garlic aioli for dipping.
  • Pair with coleslaw, mac and cheese, or roasted vegetables for a full meal.
  • Slice and toss into a wrap or sandwich with lettuce and tomato.
