Creamsicle Orange Cookies

These Creamsicle Orange Cookies are soft, sweet, and bursting with nostalgic citrusy flavor. With a bright orange zest and creamy white chocolate chips in every bite, they taste just like your favorite childhood creamsicle popsicle—but in warm, chewy cookie form. Perfect for spring, summer, or any time you want a refreshing twist on a classic cookie!

🍪 Ingredients

  • ¾ cup (170g) unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup (150g) granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup (55g) light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest (about 1 large orange)
  • 1½ tablespoons fresh orange juice
  • 2¼ cups (280g) all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (175g) white chocolate chips

👩‍🍳 Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Cream butter and sugars together in a large bowl until light and fluffy (about 2–3 minutes).
  3. Add egg, vanilla, orange zest, and juice. Mix until smooth.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture until just combined.
  6. Fold in white chocolate chips.
  7. Scoop dough into 1.5 tablespoon-sized balls and place 2 inches apart on baking sheets.
  8. Bake for 9–11 minutes, until edges are lightly golden and centers are soft.
  9. Cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.

💡 Tips

  • Use fresh orange zest and juice—it makes all the difference in flavor.
  • Don’t overbake. Pull cookies when they look just set in the center for the perfect chewy texture.
  • Chill the dough for 20–30 minutes for thicker cookies.
  • Add a touch of orange extract for an even bolder creamsicle flavor.

🔁 Variations & Substitutions

  • Add a glaze: Mix powdered sugar with orange juice and drizzle on top once cookies cool.
  • Swap chips: Try using vanilla chips, chopped white chocolate, or even milk chocolate for contrast.
  • Gluten-free: Use a 1:1 gluten-free flour blend.
  • Vegan version: Use plant-based butter and egg replacer, and vegan white chocolate chips.

❓ FAQs

Can I use bottled orange juice?
Fresh is best for flavor, but bottled works in a pinch. Just avoid ones with added sugar.

Can I make these ahead?
Yes! The dough can be refrigerated for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 2 months.

Do these cookies spread a lot?
They spread moderately. For thicker cookies, chill the dough before baking.

Are these very sweet?
They’re balanced between sweet and tangy, thanks to the orange zest and juice.
