Ingredients (Serves 2-3)

For the Crispy Chicken:

  • 300g boneless chicken breast or thigh, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1/2 tsp salt (2g)
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper (1g)
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder (1g)
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce (15ml)
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch (30g)
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour (30g)
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

For the Chilli Sauce:

  • 1 tbsp oil (15ml)
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1-inch ginger, minced
  • 1/2 cup red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1/2 cup green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1/2 tsp red chili flakes (optional, for extra heat)
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce (15ml)
  • 1 tbsp vinegar (15ml)
  • 2 tbsp ketchup (30ml)
  • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce (15ml)
  • 1 tbsp honey or brown sugar (15ml)
  • 1/4 cup water (60ml)
  • 1 tsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water (for thickening)
  • 1 tsp sesame oil (5ml)

For Garnish:

  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds
  • 2 green onions, chopped

Instructions

Step 1: Marinate & Coat the Chicken

  1. In a bowl, season the chicken pieces with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and soy sauce. Let it marinate for 10 minutes.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix cornstarch and flour.
  3. Dip each piece of chicken into the beaten egg, then coat evenly in the flour mixture.

Step 2: Fry the Chicken

  1. Heat oil in a deep pan or wok over medium-high heat.
  2. Fry the coated chicken pieces in batches until golden brown and crispy (about 4-5 minutes per batch).
  3. Remove and drain on a paper towel.

Step 3: Prepare the Chilli Sauce

  1. In a large pan, heat 1 tbsp oil.
  2. Add garlic, ginger, and chili flakes, sautéing until fragrant.
  3. Toss in the bell peppers and stir-fry for 1-2 minutes.
  4. Add soy sauce, vinegar, ketchup, hoisin sauce, honey, and water. Stir well.
  5. Mix 1 tsp cornstarch with 2 tbsp water and pour it into the sauce. Stir until the sauce thickens.

Step 4: Toss Everything Together

  1. Add the fried chicken to the sauce and toss to coat evenly.
  2. Drizzle sesame oil over the dish and mix.

Step 5: Garnish & Serve

  1. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and chopped green onions.
  2. Serve hot with steamed rice, fried rice, or noodles!
