When it comes to the ultimate wing experience, dry rub chicken wings bring the bold. These wings are coated in a zesty, smoky, and slightly spicy seasoning blend, then baked or air-fried to golden, crispy perfection. No sticky sauces, no mess — just pure crunch and flavor in every bite.

Perfect for game days, casual dinners, BBQ spreads, or whenever a wing craving hits, these Crispy Dry Rub Chicken Wings are a go-to favorite. They’re easy to prep, customizable to your taste, and so satisfying.

🌟 Why You’ll Love These Wings

  • 🔥 Big flavor without the need for sauce
  • 👌 Crispy skin from oven baking or air frying — no deep frying required
  • 🧂 Homemade dry rub with pantry spices
  • 🍽️ Perfect for parties, game day, or easy meals
  • 🍗 Keto & low carb friendly

👉 From my kitchen: I like to finish the wings with a light squeeze of fresh lime juice after baking — it brightens the spice mix and takes the flavor over the top.

🛒 Ingredients

Serves 4–6

For the wings:

  • 2 lbs chicken wings (drumettes and flats, patted dry)
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder (aluminum-free) – for crispiness
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (optional for air fryer or oven)

For the dry rub:

  • 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • ½ teaspoon cumin
  • ½ teaspoon dried thyme or oregano
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar (optional, for a touch of sweetness)

👨‍🍳 Instructions

Step 1: Prep the Wings

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) or preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Pat wings completely dry with paper towels — this is key for crispiness.
  3. Toss wings in a large bowl with baking powder to help the skin crisp up.

Step 2: Mix the Dry Rub

In a small bowl, combine all the dry rub spices. Mix well. You can adjust the cayenne and brown sugar depending on your heat and sweet preferences.

Step 3: Season the Wings

Add the dry rub to the wings and toss until evenly coated. Add olive oil if desired for a bit of extra crispness and color.

Step 4: Bake or Air Fry

🧑‍🍳 Oven Method:

  • Line a baking sheet with foil and place a wire rack on top. Arrange wings in a single layer.
  • Bake for 40–45 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden and crispy.

🍃 Air Fryer Method:

  • Arrange wings in a single layer in the air fryer basket (work in batches if needed).
  • Air fry for 20–24 minutes, flipping halfway, until crispy and cooked through.

Step 5: Serve!

Let wings rest for 5 minutes, then serve immediately. Garnish with fresh herbs, lime wedges, or a sprinkle of extra dry rub.

Great with ranch or blue cheese dip, or just on their own!

🍽️ Serving Suggestions

  • Serve with crispy fries, coleslaw, or a garden salad
  • Perfect appetizer for Super Bowl parties or weekend cookouts
  • Pair with icy beer, iced tea, or sparkling water with lime

💡 Tips & Variations

  • Make it smoky: Add chipotle powder for a deeper, smoky kick
  • Sweet & spicy? Increase brown sugar and cayenne for that classic balance
  • No baking powder? You can still bake or air fry them, just pat them extra dry
  • Grill them: This dry rub works beautifully on the grill too!
  • Make ahead: Mix the rub in bulk and store in an airtight jar for future wing nights

✨ From My Kitchen to Yours

These Crispy Dry Rub Chicken Wings are everything I love in a weeknight meal or game day snack — quick, bold, and deeply satisfying. They’re messy in the best way (even without sauce), and they always disappear fast. If you’ve only had saucy wings, you’re in for a flavor-packed surprise!

Homemade wings give you full control — spice it up, sweeten it, or keep it simple. Either way, these wings are a guaranteed win.
