Why You’ll Love This Recipe

These Double Chocolate Chip Muffins are a chocolate lover’s dream—rich, moist, and packed with melty chocolate chips in every bite! With a soft, fluffy texture and a deep cocoa flavor, they taste just like they came from a bakery, but they’re so easy to make at home.

✔ Extra Chocolatey: A double dose of cocoa powder and chocolate chips for intense flavor.
✔ Super Moist & Fluffy: The perfect balance of softness and structure.
✔ Easy One-Bowl Recipe: No fancy equipment—just mix and bake!
✔ Great for Breakfast or Dessert: Enjoy them warm with coffee or as a sweet treat anytime.

Ingredients

For 12 muffins, you’ll need:

  • 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar (for extra moisture)
  • ½ cup vegetable oil (or melted butter)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¾ cup milk (or buttermilk for extra softness)
  • 1 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or dark)

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat & Prep

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Line a 12-cup muffin tin with paper liners or grease with non-stick spray.

Step 2: Mix the Batter

  1. Whisk Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, sift together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  2. Mix Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together sugar, brown sugar, oil, eggs, vanilla, and milk until well combined.
  3. Combine Everything: Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, stirring until just combined (don’t overmix!).
  4. Add Chocolate Chips: Gently fold in chocolate chips, reserving a few for topping.

Step 3: Bake the Muffins

  1. Divide the batter evenly into the prepared muffin cups, filling each about ¾ full.
  2. Sprinkle extra chocolate chips on top for a bakery-style look.
  3. Bake for 18-22 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  4. Let cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Tips & Tricks for the Best Double Chocolate Muffins

✔ Use Buttermilk for Extra Moisture: Buttermilk creates a super soft texture—substitute ¾ cup milk + 1 teaspoon vinegar if you don’t have it.
✔ Don’t Overmix: Stir until just combined to keep muffins light and fluffy.
✔ Bake at High Heat First: Start at 400°F (200°C) for 5 minutes, then reduce to 375°F (190°C) for the rest of the baking time for a high-domed bakery-style muffin.
✔ Use Different Chocolate Chips: Try white chocolate, dark chocolate, or peanut butter chips for a fun twist!
