  • 230g (1 cup) unsalted butter, softened
  • 200g (1 cup) granulated sugar

  • 300g (2½ cups) all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt

For the Buttercream Frosting:

  • 115g (½ cup) unsalted butter, softened
  • 250g (2 cups) powdered sugar
  • 1-2 tbsp milk
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • Food coloring (red, green, white, and black)

For Decoration:

  • Mini marshmallows (for hats)
  • Red and green sprinkles
  • Small round candies (for noses, like M&Ms or pink sugar pearls)

How to Make Christmas Gnome Cookies

Step 1: Prepare the Sugar Cookie Dough

  1. In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar until creamy.
  2. Add egg and vanilla extract, mixing well.
  3. In another bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.
  5. Wrap dough in plastic and chill for 30 minutes.

Step 2: Bake the Cookies

  1. Preheat oven to 175°C (350°F).
  2. Roll out dough to 6mm (¼-inch) thickness and cut into round or oval shapes.
  3. Place cookies on a lined baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes, until edges are lightly golden.
  4. Cool completely before decorating.

Step 3: Make the Buttercream Frosting

  1. Beat butter until smooth, then gradually add powdered sugar.
  2. Mix in vanilla extract and milk until creamy.
  3. Divide frosting into bowls and color them red, green, white, and black.

Step 4: Decorate the Gnome Cookies

  1. Pipe a fluffy white beard using white frosting.
  2. Make the hat by piping red or green frosting in a triangle shape above the beard.
  3. Add a mini marshmallow at the top of the hat.
  4. Place a small round candy in the center of the beard for the gnome’s nose.
  5. Use black frosting to add small details like eyes or hat accents.
