Easy Grilled Asian Chicken Skewers with Honey Garlic Sauce

Juicy, flavorful, and glazed to perfection! These Grilled Asian Chicken Skewers are marinated in a delicious blend of soy sauce, honey, garlic, and ginger, then grilled until beautifully caramelized. Perfect for BBQs, weeknight dinners, or meal prep!


???? Ingredients

For the Chicken Skewers:

  • 1 ½ lbs (680g) boneless, skinless chicken breasts (or thighs), cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch (to thicken sauce)
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 tablespoon green onions, chopped (for garnish)
  • Sesame seeds, for garnish
  • Wooden or metal skewers

???? For the Honey Garlic Glaze:

  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • ½ teaspoon sesame oil

???? Instructions

Step 1: Marinate the Chicken

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together sesame oil, soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes.
  2. Add the chicken pieces and toss to coat evenly. Cover and marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes (or up to 4 hours for deeper flavor).

Step 2: Prepare the Skewers

  1. If using wooden skewers, soak them in water for 20-30 minutes to prevent burning.
  2. Thread the marinated chicken pieces onto skewers.

Step 3: Make the Honey Garlic Glaze

  1. In a small saucepan, combine soy sauce, honey, garlic, ginger, rice vinegar, and sesame oil over medium heat.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix cornstarch and water, then add to the sauce. Simmer until thickened, about 2-3 minutes.

Step 4: Grill the Skewers

  1. Preheat your grill (or grill pan) to medium-high heat. Lightly oil the grates.
  2. Grill the skewers for 10-12 minutes, turning occasionally, until the chicken is cooked through (165°F internal temp).
  3. In the last 2 minutes, brush the skewers generously with the honey garlic glaze, allowing it to caramelize.

Step 5: Garnish and Serve

  1. Remove the skewers from the grill and sprinkle with green onions and sesame seeds.
  2. Serve immediately with rice, noodles, or a fresh Asian salad.

???? Tips for the Best Skewers

✔️ Marinate longer for deeper flavor (overnight if possible!).
✔️ Don’t overcrowd the skewers for even cooking.
✔️ Baste in the last minutes of grilling to prevent burning.
