There’s something magical about a warm, flaky biscuit straight from the oven. Golden on the outside, soft and tender on the inside, these Easy Homemade Biscuits are made with just a few pantry staples — no mixer, no yeast, no stress.

Whether slathered with butter, drenched in honey, or stuffed with jam or sausage gravy, these biscuits bring comfort and joy to any meal. The secret? Cold butter, gentle handling, and a hot oven!

Why You’ll Love These Biscuits

  • 🧈 Buttery and fluffy with crispy golden tops
  • ⏱️ Quick and easy — ready in about 25 minutes
  • 🌾 No yeast, no rise time, and minimal cleanup
  • 🍽️ Versatile — great for breakfast, brunch, or dinner
  • 💡 Freezer-friendly for meal prep magic

Ingredients (U.S. Standard Measurements – Makes ~8 biscuits)

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 6 tablespoons cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • ¾ cup cold buttermilk (plus extra for brushing)

💡 No buttermilk? Mix ¾ cup milk + 2 tsp lemon juice or vinegar and let sit for 5 min!

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 2: Mix the Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

Step 3: Cut in the Butter

Add the cold cubed butter. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut butter into flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Step 4: Add Buttermilk

Pour in the buttermilk and stir gently until the dough comes together. Do not overmix!

Step 5: Fold for Flaky Layers

Turn the dough onto a floured surface. Pat into a rectangle and fold in half. Repeat 2–3 times. This helps create layers!

Step 6: Shape and Cut

Pat the dough to about ¾ inch thickness. Use a round cutter or glass to cut out biscuits. Place them close together on the baking sheet for soft sides.

Step 7: Bake

Brush the tops with a little buttermilk or melted butter. Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until tall and golden brown.

Step 8: Serve

Serve warm with butter, honey, jam, or gravy — or make biscuit breakfast sandwiches!

Tips & Tricks

  • ❄️ Keep your butter and buttermilk cold for best rise
  • ✋ Don’t overwork the dough — it makes biscuits tough
  • 🔁 Folding the dough = flakier layers
  • 🌿 Add cheddar, chives, garlic, or herbs for a savory twist
  • 🧊 Freeze raw biscuits for later and bake from frozen at 450°F for 18–20 min

Serving Ideas
