Easy Salmon Patties (4 Ingredients!)

August 7, 2025 by [email protected] Leave a Comment

These Easy Salmon Patties are crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and packed with flavor—all with just 4 simple ingredients! Perfect for a quick weeknight dinner, light lunch, or protein-packed snack. They’re budget-friendly, pantry-friendly, and come together in under 20 minutes.

Ingredients

  • 1 can (14–15 oz) salmon, drained and flaked (skin and bones removed, if desired)
  • 1 large egg
  • ⅓ cup breadcrumbs (or crushed crackers/oats)
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise

Optional Add-ins (not counted in the 4!):

  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon chopped parsley or green onion
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Lemon juice or zest, for extra brightness

Instructions

  1. Mix Ingredients
In a medium bowl, combine the salmon, egg, breadcrumbs, and mayo. Stir until well combined. Add any optional seasonings if desired.
  2. Form Patties
Shape mixture into 4 even patties. If mixture is too wet, add a little more breadcrumbs.
  3. Cook the Patties
Heat a bit of oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook patties for 3–4 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy on both sides.
  4. Serve
Let cool slightly and serve warm with your favorite sauce or side.

Tips

  • Use panko for extra crunch or oats for a healthier binder.
  • If using fresh salmon, cook it first and flake it before mixing.
  • Add herbs, onion, or spices to boost flavor without complicating prep.
  • Make smaller patties for sliders or mini appetizers!

Variations and Substitutions

  • Gluten-free: Use gluten-free breadcrumbs or crushed rice crackers.
  • Low-carb: Substitute almond flour or crushed pork rinds.
  • Dairy-free: These are naturally dairy-free—just check your mayo brand.
  • Air Fryer: Air fry at 375°F (190°C) for 8–10 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden.

FAQs

Can I use fresh salmon instead of canned?
Yes! Just cook it beforehand, flake, and let it cool before mixing.

Do I need to remove the skin and bones?
That’s optional. Canned salmon bones are soft and edible, but you can remove them for a smoother texture.

Can I freeze salmon patties?
Yes! Freeze them uncooked or cooked. Reheat in a skillet, oven, or air fryer until heated through.

Why are my patties falling apart?
If the mixture is too wet, add more breadcrumbs. If too dry, add a bit more mayo or a splash of lemon juice.

Serving Suggestions

  • Serve with tartar sauce, sriracha mayo, or garlic aioli.
  • Pair with a fresh green salad, rice, or roasted vegetables.
  • Make a sandwich or wrap with lettuce, tomato, and a toasted bun.
  • Add to a lunch bowl with quinoa, avocado, and veggies.
