January 14, 2025 by el hassan Leave a Comment

Description: Garbage Bread is a delicious and customizable savory treat that’s perfect for any occasion. This easy-to-make bread is filled with a variety of meats, cheese, and vegetables, all rolled up in a soft, golden crust. Think of it as a hearty, portable pizza packed with flavor in every bite. Whether you’re looking for a crowd-pleasing appetizer, a quick dinner, or a fun snack, Garbage Bread is sure to satisfy!

Ingredients:

  • 1 package of refrigerated pizza dough (or homemade dough)
  • 1/2 lb cooked sausage (or any ground meat of your choice)
  • 1/2 lb pepperoni or sliced deli meats (optional)
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup sliced bell peppers (red, green, or both)
  • 1/4 cup sliced onions
  • 1/4 cup sliced black olives (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for extra heat)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (for brushing)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare the Filling: In a skillet, cook the sausage (or preferred ground meat) over medium heat until browned and crumbled. Drain any excess grease. Add garlic powder, oregano, salt, and pepper. Set aside to cool slightly.
  3. Roll the Dough: On a floured surface, roll out the pizza dough into a rectangular shape, about 12 inches by 8 inches.
  4. Add the Filling: Evenly spread the cooked sausage over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges. Sprinkle the mozzarella and cheddar cheeses, followed by the bell peppers, onions, olives, and pepperoni (if using).
  5. Roll and Seal: Carefully roll the dough into a log, starting from one edge. Pinch the seams to seal and tuck the ends under to form a loaf shape.
  6. Brush and Bake: Place the rolled-up dough onto the prepared baking sheet. Brush the top with olive oil and sprinkle with a bit of garlic powder and oregano. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and the cheese is melted.
  7. Serve: Let the Garbage Bread cool for a few minutes before slicing. Serve warm with marinara sauce for dipping, if desired.

Tips & Tricks:

  • Customize the Filling: Garbage Bread is highly versatile! Feel free to swap out the sausage for bacon, chicken, or even a vegetarian option like mushrooms, spinach, or zucchini.
  • Add Extra Veggies: To make it even more filling, add mushrooms, spinach, or other vegetables of your choice for a more wholesome version.
  • Make It Ahead: You can assemble the Garbage Bread ahead of time, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for up to 24 hours before baking.
  • Serve with Dipping Sauce: Marinara sauce, ranch, or garlic butter make great dipping sauces for added flavor.
