Sautéed Garlic Butter Mushrooms and Onions with White Wine make for an elegant side dish bursting with flavor. Perfect alongside steak, chicken, or pasta! ????????
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 medium onion, sliced
- 3 cups cremini or button mushrooms, sliced
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1/2 cup dry white wine (like Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio)
- 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves (or 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions
- Heat Oil and Butter: In a large skillet over medium heat, warm the olive oil and butter until melted.
- Sauté Onions: Add the sliced onion and cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until softened.
- Add Mushrooms: Stir in the mushrooms and cook for 6–8 minutes, or until golden brown and their moisture has mostly evaporated.
- Add Garlic: Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
- Deglaze with Wine: Pour in the white wine, scraping up any brown bits from the skillet. Let the wine simmer for 2–3 minutes until slightly reduced.
- Season and Add Herbs: Sprinkle in the thyme, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine and cook for 1 more minute.
- Garnish and Serve: Remove from heat, sprinkle with fresh parsley, and serve immediately.
Notes
- Wine Substitute: Replace wine with chicken or vegetable broth for an alcohol-free version.
- Mushroom Varieties: Feel free to mix different types of mushrooms like shiitake, oyster, or portobello for added depth.
- Serving Suggestions: Serve over steak, mashed potatoes, rice, or toast for a simple yet satisfying dish.
- Make Ahead: Prep the ingredients ahead of time, and reheat the dish in a skillet when ready to serve.
