Hanky Panky Recipe

January 1, 2025 by el hassan Leave a Comment

Hanky Panky is a crowd-pleasing, retro appetizer that’s loved for its savory, cheesy goodness. Made with sausage, ground beef, and a melted cheese mixture, served on crispy rye bread, it’s a must-have for game days, potlucks, or holiday gatherings!

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 lb ground pork sausage (mild or spicy, based on preference)
  • 1 (16 oz) package Velveeta cheese, cubed
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp paprika (optional, for extra flavor)
  • 1 loaf cocktail rye bread

Instructions

  1. Cook the Meat:
    • In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and sausage until browned and fully cooked. Drain any excess grease.
  2. Melt the Cheese:
    • Add the cubed Velveeta cheese to the skillet with the cooked meat. Stir constantly over low heat until the cheese is fully melted and combined with the meat mixture.
  3. Season:
    • Stir in garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika (if using). Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
  4. Assemble:
    • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lay the rye bread slices on a baking sheet. Spoon about 1–2 tablespoons of the meat and cheese mixture onto each slice.
  5. Bake:
    • Bake for 8–10 minutes, or until the edges of the bread are crispy and the topping is bubbly.
  6. Serve:
    • Serve warm and enjoy! These are best eaten fresh, but can be reheated in the oven if needed.

Notes

  • For a spicy twist, use hot sausage or add a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes to the meat mixture.
  • Leftover meat and cheese mixture can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated for another round of appetizers.
  • These can be prepared ahead of time: assemble the bread and topping, refrigerate, and bake when ready to serve.
