Homemade Chicago-Style Deep Dish Pizza

January 13, 2025 by el hassan Leave a Comment

Description: Bring the taste of Chicago to your kitchen with this homemade deep-dish pizza! With a buttery, flaky crust, layers of melty cheese, savory sausage, and rich tomato sauce, this recipe is perfect for pizza night or impressing your guests.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups (280g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 2 cups (200g) shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 lb (450g) Italian sausage, cooked and crumbled
  • 1 1/2 cups (360ml) crushed tomatoes

This pizza is a cheesy, saucy masterpiece with a thick, buttery crust that holds it all together!

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: In a bowl, combine yeast with 3/4 cup (180ml) warm water and let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy. Add melted butter, 1 tsp sugar, and flour. Mix until a dough forms. Knead on a floured surface for 5–7 minutes until smooth. Cover and let rise for 1 hour.
  2. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Grease a 9-inch deep-dish pan or cast-iron skillet.
  3. Roll Out Dough: Roll out the dough into a circle slightly larger than your pan. Press it into the pan, ensuring the dough comes up the sides.
  4. Layer the Ingredients: Start with mozzarella cheese, spreading it evenly on the bottom. Add the cooked sausage, then pour the crushed tomatoes on top. Sprinkle with salt, pepper, and dried oregano.
  5. Bake: Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.
  6. Cool and Serve: Let the pizza cool for 5 minutes before slicing. Enjoy the deep, cheesy layers!

Tips

  • Add toppings like pepperoni, mushrooms, or bell peppers for extra flavor.
  • For a flaky crust, chill the dough in the fridge for 30 minutes before rolling it out.
  • Use high-quality crushed tomatoes for the best sauce flavor.
