Homemade Pumpkin & Oatmeal Dog Snack Sticks

If you’re looking for a healthy and simple way to treat your pup, these Homemade Pumpkin & Oatmeal Dog Snack Sticks are the perfect solution. Made with just a few pantry staples, they’re loaded with dog-friendly goodness like fiber-rich pumpkin, hearty oats, and a touch of cinnamon — no preservatives, no fillers, and no mystery ingredients.

These snack sticks are perfect for training, travel, or as a wholesome reward. Plus, they’re soft enough for dogs of all ages to enjoy, from puppies to seniors!

🛒 Ingredients

  • 1 cup canned pure pumpkin (not pumpkin pie filling)
  • 2 ½ cups old-fashioned oats
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
  • 1–2 tablespoons water (as needed for texture)

Optional add-ins (dog-safe):

  • 1 tablespoon natural peanut butter (xylitol-free)
  • 1 tablespoon plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh parsley or mint (for breath-freshening)

👩‍🍳 Instructions

1. Preheat oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. Blend the oats

Pulse the oats in a food processor or blender until you get a coarse flour. It doesn’t need to be super fine — just enough to help bind the dough.

3. Make the dough

In a large bowl, mix the pumpkin, eggs, cinnamon (if using), and blended oats. Stir until a thick dough forms. Add 1–2 tablespoons of water if the dough is too dry to shape.

4. Shape the sticks

On a lightly floured surface or between two pieces of parchment, roll the dough into a rectangle about ½ inch thick. Slice into long sticks or use cookie cutters for fun shapes.

5. Bake

Place sticks on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 25–30 minutes, flipping halfway through, until firm and golden.

6. Cool completely

Let cool on a wire rack. Store in an airtight container.

🐶 Storage Tips

  • Room temperature: Up to 5 days in an airtight container
  • Refrigerator: Up to 2 weeks
  • Freezer: Store for up to 3 months. Just thaw before serving

✅ Tips & Variations

  • For crunchy treats: Bake an extra 10–15 minutes until crisp.
  • For chewy sticks: Reduce bake time by 5 minutes.
  • Add a boost: Mix in ground flaxseed or a spoonful of coconut oil.
  • Make it meatier: Add a few tablespoons of cooked, shredded chicken or beef (reduce eggs slightly).
  • Use a dehydrator for long-lasting chewy sticks.

⚠️ Safety Reminder

Always consult your vet before introducing new treats, especially if your dog has allergies or dietary concerns. Avoid any ingredients with xylitol, added sugar, or artificial flavorings.
