Indian Overnight Oats

Take your breakfast up a notch with Indian Overnight Oats — a wholesome fusion of oats soaked overnight in spiced milk, infused with cardamom, cinnamon, saffron, and naturally sweetened with dates or honey. It’s nutritious, satisfying, and tastes like a chilled dessert for breakfast!

🛒 Ingredients

  • ½ cup rolled oats
  • ½ cup milk (dairy or almond/oat/coconut milk)
  • ¼ cup plain Greek yogurt (or plant-based yogurt)
  • 1–2 teaspoons honey or maple syrup (or chopped dates)
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cardamom
  • ⅛ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of saffron threads (optional but lovely)
  • 1 tablespoon chopped nuts (pistachios, almonds, or cashews)
  • 1 tablespoon golden raisins (or regular)
  • Pinch of salt
  • Optional: splash of rose water or a few drops of vanilla

👩‍🍳 Instructions

  1. Mix Everything Together
In a jar or bowl, combine oats, milk, yogurt, sweetener, cardamom, cinnamon, saffron, salt, nuts, and raisins. Stir well to combine.
  2. Chill Overnight
Cover and refrigerate overnight (or at least 6 hours) so the oats absorb the liquid and flavors meld.
  3. Serve
In the morning, stir and top with extra chopped nuts, more raisins or dates, and a dusting of cinnamon or a drizzle of honey.

✅ Tips

  • Use saffron soaked in a tablespoon of warm milk for a deeper golden color and flavor.
  • Toast the nuts lightly before adding for extra crunch and flavor.
  • Add shredded coconut or chopped mango for a more tropical feel.
  • Want it thicker? Use less milk or add chia seeds.

🔄 Variations

  • Chai-Spiced Version: Add ¼ tsp chai masala or use chai concentrate instead of plain milk.
  • Vegan-Friendly: Use dairy-free milk and yogurt, and maple syrup or dates for sweetening.
  • Protein Boost: Add a scoop of vanilla protein powder or peanut butter.

❓FAQs

Can I warm it up?
Yes! Heat gently in a saucepan or microwave for a comforting warm version.

How long does it last?
Up to 3–4 days in the fridge.

Can I use steel-cut oats?
Only if they’re the quick-cook kind — otherwise, stick to rolled oats.
