Enjoy the rich and cheesy flavors of Longhorn Steakhouse’s famous Parmesan Chicken at home. This crispy, golden chicken breast is topped with savory Parmesan, marinara sauce, and melted mozzarella for a comforting and satisfying meal.

Ingredients

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1½ cups Italian-style breadcrumbs
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese, divided
  • 1 cup marinara sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • Fresh basil or parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prep the Chicken
Pound chicken breasts to an even thickness (about ½ inch) for uniform cooking. Season both sides with salt and pepper.
  2. Bread the Chicken
Place flour in a shallow bowl. In another bowl, beat eggs. In a third bowl, combine breadcrumbs and ¼ cup Parmesan cheese.
Dredge each chicken breast in flour, shaking off excess, then dip into beaten eggs, and finally coat thoroughly with the breadcrumb mixture.
  3. Cook the Chicken
Heat olive oil and butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add chicken and cook for 4–5 minutes per side, until golden brown and cooked through.
  4. Add Sauce and Cheese
Preheat oven broiler. Transfer chicken breasts to a baking sheet. Spoon marinara sauce over each piece, then sprinkle with mozzarella and remaining Parmesan cheese.
  5. Broil
Broil for 2–3 minutes or until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  6. Serve
Garnish with fresh basil or parsley and serve immediately.

Tips

  • For extra crispy chicken, double coat by dipping again in egg and breadcrumbs before cooking.
  • Use freshly grated Parmesan for the best flavor and texture.
  • If you don’t have a broiler, bake at 400°F (200°C) for 5–7 minutes until cheese melts.

Variations and Substitutions

  • Gluten-Free: Use gluten-free breadcrumbs and flour alternatives.
  • Dairy-Free: Substitute mozzarella and Parmesan with vegan cheese.
  • Spicy Kick: Add red pepper flakes to breadcrumbs or marinara sauce.
  • Herb Twist: Mix Italian seasoning or fresh herbs into breadcrumb mixture.

FAQs

Can I bake the chicken instead of frying?
Yes! Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 20–25 minutes, then add sauce and cheese and broil until bubbly.

How do I keep chicken moist?
Pounding to even thickness and not overcooking helps keep it juicy.

Can I prepare ahead?
You can bread chicken ahead and refrigerate for a few hours before cooking.

What sides pair well?
Serve with pasta, steamed vegetables, or a crisp salad.

Serving Suggestions

  • Serve over spaghetti or your favorite pasta with extra marinara.
