If you love the earthy, slightly sweet taste of matcha green tea, these Matcha Brownies will be your new favorite treat! Combining the richness of white chocolate with the vibrant flavors of Japanese matcha, these brownies are chewy, fudgy, and packed with antioxidants. They have a beautiful green color, a creamy texture, and just the right amount of sweetness. Whether you’re a matcha lover or new to green tea desserts, these brownies are a must-try!

Ingredients (Makes 16 Brownies)

Dry Ingredients:

  • All-purpose flour – 125g (1 cup)
  • Matcha powder – 10g (2 tbsp) (use high-quality ceremonial or culinary grade)
  • Salt – ¼ tsp

Wet Ingredients:

  • Unsalted butter – 115g (½ cup), melted
  • White chocolate – 170g (6 oz), chopped
  • Granulated sugar – 150g (¾ cup)
  • Brown sugar – 50g (¼ cup)
  • Eggs – 2 large
  • Vanilla extract – 1 tsp

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat & Prepare the Pan

  1. Preheat your oven to 175°C (350°F).
  2. Line a 20cm x 20cm (8×8-inch) square pan with parchment paper and lightly grease it.

Step 2: Melt White Chocolate & Butter

  1. In a heatproof bowl, melt butter and white chocolate over a double boiler or microwave in 20-second intervals, stirring between each.
  2. Once smooth, let it cool slightly.

Step 3: Mix the Wet Ingredients

  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together granulated sugar, brown sugar, and eggs until light and fluffy (about 1-2 minutes).
  2. Add the melted chocolate mixture and vanilla extract, whisking until fully combined.

Step 4: Sift & Combine Dry Ingredients

  1. In a separate bowl, sift together flour, matcha powder, and salt.
  2. Gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture using a spatula.

Step 5: Bake the Brownies

  1. Pour the batter into the prepared pan, spreading evenly.
  2. Bake for 22-25 minutes, or until the edges are set but the center is slightly soft.
  3. A toothpick inserted should come out with a few moist crumbs (not wet batter).

Step 6: Cool & Serve

  1. Let the brownies cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
  2. Slice into 16 squares and enjoy!
