Moist and Sweet Cornbread Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/4 cups milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons honey

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease the bottom and sides of an 8-inch square baking pan with non-stick cooking spray.
  2. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a bowl, stir together the dry ingredients—cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Combine Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together the wet ingredients—milk, eggs, vegetable oil, melted butter, and honey.
  4. Mix Dry and Wet Ingredients: Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  5. Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Cool and Serve: Remove the cornbread from the oven and let it cool for 10 minutes. Slice and serve warm with butter, honey, or your favorite topping!

  • Butter & Honey: The classic choice, for a simple, sweet finish.
  • Jalapeños: Add some spicy heat by topping with fresh or roasted jalapeños.
  • Cheese: Crumbled feta, goat cheese, or cheddar pair wonderfully with the sweetness of the cornbread.
  • Bacon: Crispy bacon crumbles add a savory crunch to balance the sweetness.

Can You Freeze Cornbread? Yes, you can freeze cornbread! Wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and store it in an airtight container for up to 2-3 months. When ready to serve, simply thaw and reheat. Note that it may become slightly more crumbly after freezing, but it will still be delicious.
