Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes

December 27, 2024 by el hassan Leave a Comment

Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes are the ultimate mashup of two classic comfort foods. Juicy, flavorful ground beef cooked with onions, bell peppers, and gooey melted cheese is served on toasted buns for a quick and easy weeknight dinner that everyone will love. This recipe captures all the iconic flavors of a Philly cheesesteak with the simplicity of a sloppy joe.

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, finely diced
  • 1 green bell pepper, finely diced
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 6 slices provolone cheese (or 1 cup shredded provolone)
  • 4 hamburger buns, toasted
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Optional Toppings:

  • Sautéed mushrooms
  • Pickled jalapeños
  • Hot sauce

Instructions:

  1. Cook the Beef Mixture: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion and bell pepper, cooking until softened, about 3-4 minutes. Add the ground beef and cook until browned and fully cooked, breaking it up with a spoon. Drain any excess fat.
  2. Season the Beef: Stir in garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, beef broth, ketchup, salt, and pepper. Let the mixture simmer for 5 minutes until slightly thickened.
  3. Add the Cheese: Reduce the heat to low and layer the provolone cheese over the beef mixture. Cover the skillet with a lid and let the cheese melt, about 2 minutes. Stir the melted cheese into the beef mixture.
  4. Assemble the Sloppy Joes: Spoon the cheesy beef mixture onto toasted hamburger buns. Add optional toppings if desired.
  5. Serve: Serve hot with a side of fries, chips, or a fresh salad.
