Purple Velvet Cake with White Chocolate Cream Cheese Frosting

This vibrant purple velvet cake is soft, moist, and full of rich flavor. Paired with a creamy white chocolate cream cheese frosting, it’s perfect for celebrations, holidays, or any special occasion. The beautiful purple hue adds a whimsical touch to this classic dessert.


Ingredients

For the Purple Velvet Cake:

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tbsp white vinegar
  • Purple gel food coloring (adjust for desired shade)

For the White Chocolate Cream Cheese Frosting:

  • 8 oz white chocolate, melted and slightly cooled
  • 12 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

Make the Cake:

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour three 8-inch round cake pans or line with parchment paper.
  2. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, beat butter, oil, and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
  4. Add Buttermilk and Dry Ingredients: Alternate adding the dry ingredients and buttermilk to the wet mixture, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients.
  5. Add Vinegar and Food Coloring: Stir in vinegar, then mix in purple food coloring until the batter reaches your desired shade.
  6. Bake: Divide the batter evenly among the prepared pans. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cool in pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Make the Frosting:

  1. Beat Butter and Cream Cheese: In a large bowl, beat cream cheese and butter until smooth and creamy.
  2. Add White Chocolate: Mix in melted white chocolate until fully incorporated.
  3. Add Sugar and Vanilla: Gradually beat in powdered sugar and vanilla extract until smooth and fluffy.

Assemble the Cake:

  1. Layer the Cake: Place one cake layer on a serving plate and spread a layer of frosting on top. Repeat with the second and third layers.
  2. Frost the Outside: Use the remaining frosting to coat the sides and top of the cake.
  3. Decorate: Garnish with white chocolate shavings, sprinkles, or edible flowers if desired.
