Salted Caramel Chocolate Mousse Cups

These Salted Caramel Chocolate Mousse Cups are pure decadence! Silky smooth chocolate mousse layered with rich, buttery salted caramel, topped with whipped cream and a sprinkle of flaky sea salt. Perfect for special occasions or whenever you crave an indulgent treat!


Ingredients

For the Salted Caramel:

  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • ¼ cup heavy cream
  • ½ teaspoon sea salt

For the Chocolate Mousse:

  • 6 ounces dark chocolate (60-70% cocoa), finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 large egg yolks
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup heavy whipping cream

For Topping:

  • ½ cup whipped cream
  • Flaky sea salt, for garnish
  • Chocolate shavings or cocoa powder (optional)

Instructions

Step 1: Make the Salted Caramel

  1. In a medium saucepan, heat the sugar over medium heat, stirring constantly with a heatproof spatula until fully melted and golden brown.
  2. Add the butter and stir until melted. Slowly pour in the heavy cream, whisking continuously.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in the sea salt. Let cool slightly before pouring a thin layer into the bottom of each serving cup. Chill while preparing the mousse.

Step 2: Prepare the Chocolate Mousse

  1. Melt the chocolate and butter together in a heatproof bowl over a pot of simmering water (double boiler method). Stir until smooth, then remove from heat.
  2. In another bowl, whisk the egg yolks and sugar until light and creamy. Gradually mix in the melted chocolate.
  3. In a separate bowl, beat the heavy whipping cream until stiff peaks form. Gently fold it into the chocolate mixture until fully incorporated.

Step 3: Assemble the Mousse Cups

  1. Spoon or pipe the chocolate mousse over the chilled caramel layer in each cup. Smooth the tops and refrigerate for at least 2 hours until set.

Step 4: Add Toppings and Serve

  1. Before serving, top each cup with whipped cream, a sprinkle of flaky sea salt, and optional chocolate shavings or cocoa powder.
  2. Enjoy the perfect balance of creamy chocolate, rich caramel, and a hint of salt in every bite!

Tips for the Best Mousse Cups
