For the Chicken:

  • 500g boneless, skinless chicken breast or thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 60g cornstarch

  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for frying)

For the Sticky Honey Sauce:

  • 3 tablespoons (60g) honey
  • 2 tablespoons (30ml) soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) rice vinegar (or apple cider vinegar)
  • 2 tablespoons (30ml) oyster sauce (optional but adds depth)
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water (to thicken)

For Garnish:

  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • Extra honey drizzle (optional)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Chicken

  1. In a large bowl, toss the chicken pieces with cornstarch, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and smoked paprika until evenly coated.

Step 2: Fry the Chicken

  1. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the coated chicken pieces and cook for 3-4 minutes per side, until golden brown and crispy.
  3. Remove the chicken from the pan and set aside.

Step 3: Make the Sticky Honey Sauce

  1. In the same pan, reduce the heat to medium and add a small amount of oil if needed.
  2. Sauté the garlic and ginger for 30 seconds, until fragrant.
  3. Pour in the honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, oyster sauce, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes, stirring to combine.
  4. Stir in the cornstarch slurry and let the sauce simmer for 1-2 minutes until thickened and glossy.

Step 4: Coat the Chicken

  1. Return the crispy chicken to the pan and toss until fully coated in the sticky sauce.
