The Best Mashed Potatoes Recipe

Creamy, buttery, and perfectly fluffy, these mashed potatoes are the ultimate comfort food. Simple to make, they’re a must-have side dish for any dinner or holiday feast!


Ingredients:

  • 3 lbs Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup heavy cream (warmed)
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Cook the potatoes: Place the cubed potatoes in a large pot and cover with cold water. Add a generous pinch of salt. Bring to a boil, reduce to a simmer, and cook for 15–20 minutes, or until the potatoes are fork-tender.
  2. Drain: Drain the potatoes thoroughly and return them to the hot pot to remove excess moisture.
  3. Mash: Using a potato masher or ricer, mash the potatoes until smooth.
  4. Add the butter: Stir in the softened butter until melted and incorporated.
  5. Mix in the creams: Gradually add the warm heavy cream, sour cream, and garlic powder. Stir until the potatoes are creamy and fluffy. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Serve: Transfer to a serving bowl and garnish with a pat of butter or fresh chopped parsley if desired. Serve warm.

Tips for Perfect Mashed Potatoes:

  • Use Yukon Gold potatoes for their naturally creamy texture.
  • Warm the cream and sour cream before adding to avoid cooling the potatoes.
  • Don’t overmix; overworking the potatoes can make them gummy.
